Happy Junk of July

Nick's house was so empty and quiet when I got there. Had to wait for everyone to meet up there before heading for the trolley.

then we went to the trolley station in Fashion Valley

We missed the first trolley cause James and Sabrina were still on their way. Garyn waved goodbye to the trolley ride that could have been.

waiting for the next one to come

waiting some more

we finally got on! Here's Jim and Kim.

Heather and Chris

Jeanne Marie looks like she doesn't approve of something

Mary looking out the window.

Something smelled...fruity. On a trolley thats not good 'cause you never know what it might be.

Turns out it was James' gum.

we're so freakin cool.

We got off the trolley by the harbor and a big ship was there to say hello.

This was an awesome memorial. Didn't get a good picture of the whole thing though.

This was our first spot. Here Jim sits and thinks.

:)

The sun's almost down. We can smell the fireworks, they're so close.

Kim watches the sunset.

a little more time passes

and then the show started. We were so close, it was awesome.

War of the Worlds

If you haven't seen this yet, then stop reading, go to the theater, and enjoy what in my opinion is the best movie of the year. Of course that's not really saying much considering the lame and dissapointing movies (Star Wars) that have come out so far. I haven't seen Batman, but I can't imagine it holding a candle to this however good it may be. But thats just my opinion of course :)

While this movie has the most incredible alien invasion I've ever seen, I didn't really think that the movie was about aliens attacking our world. This movie was about human nature, and what a catastrophic event (such as an invasion, whether by aliens or other forces) would do to the people of the world. How would the population respond to almost certain death? How would I respond?

Spielburg did an incredible job of keeping us at the perspective of someone actually going through this. There were very few, if any, shots of the aliens from high up in a helicopter through the lens of a steady cam. This movie felt like it was being shot by someone running and screaming, holding a video camera behind them to capture the whole event (only this person happened to be an incredible cinematographer at the same time)

The white house was kept out of this film, and there were very few scenes of military involvement. This wasn't a movie about the victorious American's taking these creatures down with our fighter jets and our corageous president. That was Independance Day, and what a joke that  movie was.

Of course there are problems, but they aren't glaring enough to detract from the enjoyment of the movie.

So, I can highly recommend this movie if you are looking for a terrifying movie with excitement and danger. If you want lots of comedic relief thrown in to settle your nerves, then War of the Worlds is not for you. This movie is non stop intensity. About 15 minutes into the movie it grabs you and does not let go until the very end. Chances are you will be scared, and that's one of the things that makes it so great. Just don't expect it to have any happy moments that make you say awwwww
